A – Affordability
I must admit, part of the reason we were drawn to Jacksonville was the affordable housing market. Compared to the Northeast, our dollars went twice as far per square foot. The taxes are also half what we paid on our last house. (No State Income Tax is an added bonus!)
We were lucky to find a house in the Mandarin section of Jacksonville with enough space for our family of seven and a great backyard. Our neighborhood has a variety of housing from rentals, condos, townhouses to waterfront mansions. There is really something for everybody.
B – Beauty
The Mandarin neighborhood is exceptionally beautiful. It feels more like South Georgia than Florida. The streets are lined with old Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss. The tree canopies allow for nature walks and outdoor play by providing the neighborhood with shade all day. Mandarin is bordered by the St. John’s river, so there are many streets with scenic views of the river and areas to launch boats. The tropical foliage just enhances the color pallet. It really is quite exquisite all year round.
C – Community
The community is made up of wonderful families, singles, retirees and there is just a warm southern hospitality that draws you in as soon as you arrive. The community makes sure to be inclusive and welcoming to all. You surely feel like a member of a large extended family shortly after you have joined. There are many volunteer organizations and groups to help you. We have a welcoming committee, Bikur Cholim, Sisterhood and more.
D – Diversity
The Jacksonville Jewish community is diverse and inclusive. We have so many opportunities for spiritual growth. People feel comfortable to pop between Shuls and social events.
E – Engagement
There really is something for every person and age group in Jacksonville. The offerings put out by the Shuls, Kollel, JCA and more, mean that there is dynamic programming year round. From Kiddushes to Pickleball, Shiurum to community missions to Israel, you will find your niche and make new new friends doing it.
I can’t wait till you move here and help us write the rest of the reasons you love Jacksonville TOO.
