Homeschooling in the Jacksonville Jewish Community

Homeschooling may not be for everyone, but if you are considering homeschooling in Jacksonville, there are so many ways to make it exciting and enriching. 

One of the biggest perks of homeschooling in Jacksonville is that Florida is a School Choice State. There is a very active homeschool community in Jacksonville because of the scholarship. Many tutors and extracurricular activities run programming during the day that accept the PEP scholarship. If you take a class that doesn’t accept the scholarship, you can submit it for reimbursement to the state. There are classes for every subject and extracurricular activity you could think of. Equine training, art, music, gymnastics, and immersive language are just some of the interesting classes offered specifically for Jax homeschoolers.

Jewish homeschoolers in Jacksonville collectively create programming to highlight the Jewish holidays and other Jewish enrichment programming.

This year, we visited a homestead in St. Augustine before Rosh Hashana to learn all about beekeeping and to sample delicious honey.

For Chanuka, we crafted menorahs and dreidels.

Purim brought us together for a fun and exiting pizza hamantaschen and sushi costume party. 

For children who prefer learning through more traditional methods, there are private Judaic tutors who make house calls as well as many zoom options. A perk of our homeschooling this year was the availability to access school district courses through Duval Flex and the ability to take State Testing in the school district.

We routinely go on field trips with other homeschoolers to enhance the traditional lessons. My kids have benefited from parkour classes, jiujitsu, historical scavenger hunts and so much more.
